Trudeau Institute. Inc., in Saranac Lake, NY has an exciting opportunity for a research and project management role in immunology focusing on infectious diseases including flaviviruses, Malaria, TB and other serious infectious threats. This talented individual will develop and implement cellular and molecular immunological assays for multi-institute research teams focused on infectious diseases and Global Health. The incumbent will bring in-depth research experience to supervise laboratory staff, manage on-going projects, develop and execute immunoassays on preclinical and clinical samples, as well as contribute to the development of translational animal models. This individual will interact with multi-institutional cross-functional Trudeau Research Network Teams in close collaboration with other PIs in pre-clinical and clinical research in the areas of vaccine development and experimental therapeutics.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as an immunology expert in design and execution of on-going research projects
  • Develop diagnostic tools and bioassays and deploy them to increase immunological insight in the prospective design of preclinical and clinical research
  • Supervise and manage a team of research scientists in alignment with project priorities
  • Establish and implement laboratory protocols and SOPs
  • Execute and perform research and deliver results in a timely manner
  • Contribute to the development of new assays and animal models for drug and vaccine evaluation
  • Integrate and critically analyze data sets across multiple platforms
  • Produce high-quality project documentation and synthesize concise presentations in internal and external meetings with senior investigators, partners, and influential sponsors

QUALIFICATION

  • Preferred candidates will hold a Ph.D. with a minimum 5 years of professional experience including 3+ years of direct experience in design and execution of immunological analyses; development, optimization, and validation of bioassays, including knowledge of regulatory requirements.
  • Experience in experimental animal (e.g. rodents, rabbit and monkeys) handling with skills required for injection, harvesting tissues and organs, and essential surgical procedures i.e. thymectomy, splenectomy, osmotic pump installation and others.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in examination of immune cells for host immune control and pathogenesis of infectious agents using virological, bacteriological and immunological analyses including but not limited to:
    • Viral and bacterial burdens
    • Flow cytometry analysis for surface markers, intracellular cytokine production, proliferation using FACS Calibur, Canto, and LSRII
    • Qualitative gene expression using RT-PCR, Real-Time RT-PCR
    • Ability to construct recombinant plasmid DNA
    • ELISpot for memory T- and B-cell analysis
    • ELISA and Luminex-based multiplexing
    • Histology, pathology, and in vivo imaging using confocal microscope, IVIS, micro-CT and other tools
  • Experience in handling of human samples (whole blood, serum, plasma, urine or other body fluids) from clinical research
