Associate Director, Translational Research

NextCure is a start-up biopharmaceutical company located in Beltsville, MD, focuses on the discovery and development of novel therapeutic biologics for the treatment of cancer. We are seeking for an associate director to lead and coordinate key activities associated with translational research of NextCure’s proprietary antibody programs towards the clinic.

Responsibilities

• Design and execute translational research studies supporting preclinical development of NextCure’s biologics programs
• Lead and manage NextCure’s IND enabling studies
• Manage CROs for method transfer, validation, sample analysis monitoring and report generation
• Work closely with external research collaborators and contractors (CROs) for preclinical and clinical translational efforts
• Explore biomarker identification/validation and interface with the discovery and development teams throughout the development process
• Closely work with discovery to facilitate the smooth and efficient transfer of required biological assays required for clinical trials
• Contribute to the preparation of documentation required for regulatory submissions, including INDs
• Proactively participate in new target validation, including translational research assessment of emerging biology within therapeutic areas of strategic interest to NextCure
• Manage and develop a team of professional scientists to achieve translational objectives

Requirements

• PhD in the Biological Sciences, with extensive experience in immunology, tumor cell biology and biologics product development
• Minimum of 10 years post-PhD experience (in industry is a plus)
• Proven track record and hands-on experience taking biological molecules through preclinical development into the clinic
• Strong management skills with 5+ years managing a team or group of scientists, and experience leading multi-disciplinary teams
• Solid working knowledge of research and development
• Proven track record of leading teams in good experimental design, in-depth data analysis and interpretation based on strong scientific rationale
• Strong publication record
• Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver results on schedule in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
• Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work productively in a matrix team environment in a growing and changing environment
