Cancer Immunologist

NextCure is seeking an experienced, innovative and highly motivated cancer immunology expert to join our team. The candidate will be responsible for developing and leading immune-oncology studies at NextCure. This position will focus development and implementation of assays for validation of novel immunomodulatory targets, and may include management of a team of research scientists dependent on level of experience and expertise. Prior experience in cancer immunology, including both lymphocyte and myeloid cell expertise in relation to cancer, as well as immunotherapy research is ideal. The selected candidate will work in a highly dynamic, proactive, multidisciplinary environment with the goal of moving recently identified novel immunotherapeutics from the bench to the bedside as quickly as possible in order to improve the quality of life for the patients we serve.

Experience and Proficiencies

The duties of this position will involve supporting and/or leading a multidisciplinary team to develop biologics for cancer therapy. Studies will utilize in vitro cell-based immune assays, in vivo mouse models, and humanized mouse models elucidate mechanism of action for targeted immunotherapeutics. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge in cancer immunology theory, and hands-on expertise in studies of cancer immunoassays, flow cytometric analysis of immune cells and in utilizing in vivo mouse cancer models. The candidate must be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment to design, execute, interpret and communicate studies for multiple projects.

  • Experience in cancer target discovery is ideal
  • In-depth knowledge and training in immunobiology as it is applied to cancer
  • Expertise in flow cytometry and techniques for immune cell characterization
  • Experience in immune assays
  • Experience with in vivo mouse cancer models
  • Ability to independently plan and design experiments, make detailed observations, analyze data, interpret and deliver timely results
  • Excellent presentation and oral and written communication skills
  • Previous experience in preparing technical reports and protocols, maintenance of appropriate documentation, or comparable skills demonstrated through publications/grants
  • Capacity to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong sense of urgency, initiative, ethics/integrity and innovation
  • Experience in microscopy, including IHC processing, preparation and analysis, as well as fluorescent microscopy and experience with high throughput imaging systems

Required Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. in appropriate discipline required (e.g., immunology, tumor biology, cell biology, molecular biology)
  • Candidates with 8+ years of experience in the cancer immunology field are preferred
